Who needs the FMCSA Clearinghouse?

By the DOT Compliance Partner team · February 9, 2026 · 3 min read

The FMCSA Clearinghouse is a database of drug and alcohol program violations for CDL drivers. Employers generally have required queries — before hiring a driver, and again on an ongoing annual basis for current drivers.

Who this applies to

Any employer of CDL drivers, including a carrier whose only driver is its owner. The specifics of what's required can vary by role and situation, so it's worth confirming for your operation.

This article is general orientation, not legal or regulatory advice. Confirm current requirements with FMCSA or a qualified advisor before relying on specific dates or dollar amounts.
