USDOT Registration Assistance
A USDOT number identifies your company in FMCSA's system. Most businesses that operate commercial motor vehicles for interstate commerce need one before they can legally operate or apply for operating authority.
You don't have to use us. You can complete this yourself directly with FMCSA. Our fee is for preparing and filing it on your behalf.
Who typically needs this
- New carriers about to operate commercial vehicles in interstate commerce
- Businesses that need a USDOT number before they can apply for operating authority
- Owner-operators starting their own authority

Deadlines & renewal
There isn't a recurring deadline for the initial registration — it's a one-time filing before you begin operating. After that, your MCS-150 (see Biennial Update) needs to stay current.
Common mistakes
- Registering under the wrong operation classification for how the business actually runs
- Missing the follow-up filings (MCS-150 updates, UCR) that keep the registration in good standing
- Using a business address that doesn't match other filings, which can cause processing delays
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use a service to get a USDOT number?+
No. You can register directly with FMCSA yourself at no cost. Many carriers use us so it's filed correctly the first time and they don't have to learn the system.
How long does it take to get a USDOT number?+
Timing depends on FMCSA processing. We'll let you know once your registration has been submitted and what to expect next.
