How to get your FMCSA PIN

By the DOT Compliance Partner team · June 29, 2026 · 3 min read

FMCSA migrated its login system to Login.gov. If you registered your USDOT number recently, you likely used Login.gov from the start. If you registered earlier and had an FMCSA Portal PIN, you'll need to link or migrate your account to Login.gov to access your carrier record.

If you've never logged into the portal before

  • Go to the FMCSA Portal (portal.fmcsa.dot.gov)
  • Select 'Sign in with Login.gov'
  • Create a Login.gov account if you don't have one, using the email associated with your USDOT registration
  • Link your USDOT number to your Login.gov account

If you have an older FMCSA PIN

FMCSA's older PIN-based system has been phased out in favor of Login.gov. To access your account, you'll need to go through the FMCSA Portal and follow the migration steps to link your existing registration to a Login.gov account.

What if you don't know which email was used

FMCSA's registration shows the contact email on file. You can look up your carrier record in SAFER to find the registered contact information, then use that email to set up or access your Login.gov account.
