USDOT & MC Numbers

Why do I need a USDOT PIN and how do I get one?

Updated September 1, 2026

Your USDOT PIN is the credential that lets you access FMCSA's system and make changes to your own registration — updating your MCS-150, changing your address, updating fleet counts, and so on. Without it you generally can't self-service your record.

How to get one

FMCSA issues the PIN to the company at the address on file for the USDOT number. That's the important part: it goes to the registered address, not to whoever requests it. If your address on file is out of date, that's usually the first thing to fix.

Common problems

  • The address on file is an old one, so the PIN never arrives
  • The business moved and the MCS-150 was never updated
  • The PIN went to a previous owner or a former dispatcher

If you're stuck in that loop — you need the PIN to update the address, but the PIN goes to the old address — that's a good moment to call us rather than keep re-requesting it.

This is general orientation, not legal or regulatory advice. Requirements change and vary by operation — confirm specifics with the relevant agency or a qualified advisor before acting on them.
